What attracted you to Chic Retreats?
I have been a passionate traveller my whole life. When travelling, I always wanted a unique experience, to discover the destination I was visiting, I wanted to live like a local! I noticed a similar trend outside of travel, people were encouraged to support local shops to maintain their high street – there was a trend to support the local, the unique and the different. It was so intriguing to meet the people running these places and hear their personal stories. I wanted to become a part of this social evolution and so when I met Chic Retreats and its founder Lulu, I was inspired to become a part of it.
What do you think you bring to the team?
Building and leading an excellent team. People from different walks of life, all coming together to deliver a common goal. To me, this is what any business is about, it is first and foremost about the team. Moreover, it’s about the strategy and daring to innovate.
What is your vision for Chic Retreats?
We want to deliver the small boutique hotel marketplace, bringing the discerning traveller to the most unique hidden gems around the world. We want our guests to experience life in these destinations like a local, a home away from home. We want our guests to meet the hosts of our hotels and understand their passion for the place. We want Chic Retreats to be synonymous with an amazing guest experience in every language in every currency and in every destination.
What gives Chic Retreats a competitive edge?
I believe it’s our holistic view of the marketplace. Our customers are both the traveller and the hotel and we aim to create a ‘win-win’ situation for both. The boutique hotel marketplace is quite under-serviced and we want to provide the owners with simple, easy to use interfaces to allow them to be hosts and not have to worry about technology.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
I’m not content to visit the same destinations…I always need to explore the new and the special.
What makes the perfect boutique hotel?
I have more favourites hotels than I count! One thing they all have in common, however, are the hosts – professional, knowledgable and hospitable. Their passion for what they do shines through.
